Invitation


     It is a great pleasure for the organizers to invite you to attend and contribute to the International Symposium on “The 2001 Bhuj Earthquake and Advances in Earthquake Science” during 22-27 January 2011 in Gandhinagar. This Symposium will provide a platform to scientists from different countries to exchange their ideas and experiences in Seismology in all its dimensions.

     Various keynote addresses, invited talks and contributed talks will be delivered during 22-24 January 2011 and excursion to Kachchh during 25-27 January 2011. The main themes of discussion will be studies on Bhuj earthquake, intraplate seismicity, seismic microzonation. A volume on Bhuj earthquake will be printed in advance of the Symposium for which papers are solicited. The other sessions may be on structures, tectonics, earthquake ground motion, damaging earthquakes, tsunami, seismic designing of nuclear power plants and structural knowledge derived from oil exploration.

     The field tour to Kachchh includes visit to damaged sites due to 2001 Bhuj earthquake, active faults, a multiparametric observatory and the Dholavira Harappan Civilization site showing damage due to an earthquake of Harrapan times. The other attractions around Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad are Bird Sanctuaries, Modhera Sun Temple, and local sight-seeing including Gandhi Ashram, Akshardham (Light and Sound show), Nature and Fossil Park, Handicraft Market and Emporium, Science City, Heritage Walk and Vintage Car Museum.
